This weekend, after dinner at The Park at Fourteenth, Washington Redskin’s Clinton Portis hosted “Love from the DMV”, an all white benefit held at Famoso Restaurant in Bethesda. The event raised money for Gulf Coast relief efforts — although the evening played out more like a party than a charity benefit.
On the second floor of Famoso, tastemakers mingled with press, athletes, local celebrities, industry insiders and of course, the occasional groupie.
Redskin’s such as Fred Davis, Harry Clark and Jo Byrd, showed to support their teammate.
And although the night was more about charity than football, it was very hard to tell considering it wasn’t mentioned much throughout the evening.
R&B singer Raheem DeVaughn took over the mic while DJ Armageddon provided music on the 1s and 2s. With DeVaughn sreaming, “I’m determined to make y’all dance tonight,” the event, again, seemed more like a party.
Portis was visibly upset throughout the evening…reason unknown.
Despite whatever was bothering him, Portis was the perfect host, posing with whatever guest for picture opportunities and small talk.
Actress Elise Neal, Denyce Lawton, and Wale (although he hadn’t showed up by the time I left late into the evening) were billed as the evenings host. R&B singer Mya also showed up, showing off her new blonde hair color.
Finishing off the weekend, Portis hosted a pool party the next day at his mansion in Virginia.
