Sorry Cathy Hughes…Artists Support Performance Rights Act

By DC Fab • February 3rd, 2010

Founder of Radio One, Cathy Hughes, has been inundating us with “What’s Your Reality?” public service announcements ever since the Performance Rights Act surfaced. Don’t know what the Act is? Simply put, it’s an act that would compensate musicians to use their songs on air. Although the Internet, satellite radio and cable do take care of musicians, AM and FM radio do not.

And because Radio One owns most of the local urban radio stations like WKYS-FM and WERQ-FM, it seems like we can’t escape Cathy Hughes constant question, “What’s your reality?”

Well, the reality is that artists recently signed a statement during Grammy week to encourage Congress to pass the bill. Artists like Will.i.am and Fergie of Black Eyed Peas, Drake and Mary J. Blige lent their names to the bill.
