[New Years 2010] Your Go-to Guide for D.C. *Updated*

By DC Fab • December 29th, 2009

It’s my favorite time of the year…you stay up all night to watch the fireworks explode in the sky. One teary-eyed grandma starts singing Auld Lang Syne’s “Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mindddd” while your little sister finally pops that bottle of Moet she had been saving since her birthday. It’s a New Year and another reason to party. I’ve scoured, contemplated and hand-selected the best parties for my urban socialites to get it in this New Years season. Enjoy…and enjoy responsibly!

Cricket Wireless presents Hogates (800 Water Street SW) on the Waterfront where longtime promoter Taz Wube, Abdul Fouzi and Jarvis Crittenton of the Washington Wizards will be celebrating their birthdays. Complete with casino games, a champagne toast and appetizers, tickets are $20 for general admission and $50 for VIP.

TEAMBBC is throwing “The Cherry Moon”, a private party at Recess Lounge (727 15th Street NW) on New Years Eve. With an open bar from 9 – 11 p.m., enjoy the party until 3 a.m.  Purchase VIP Advance Tickets to fully enjoy the party in one of D.C.’s newest and hottest lounges. Also, celebrate responsibly by getting a room for $119 at the beautiful Madison Hotel (1177 15th Street NW). For Reservations Call 800.424.8577 by Dec. 28. Use code “TEAMBBC NYE”.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve on M Street at Ozio Lounge (1813 M St. NW) with it’s new non-smoking floors and sections. DJ Blaze and DJ Trav Bond will be on the tables. Doors open at 7 p.m. but the party lasts until 4 a.m. For a limited time only get tickets for $20 or pay $40 and get a three course dinner. With $5 drink specials all night, enjoy a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Contact Brandon for table reservations.

I’ve always wanted to party in one of D.C.’s greatest landmarks, Union Station (50 Massachusetts Ave. NE) and on New Years you can at “X” (stands for “Ten”)! Enjoy an open bar from 9-11 p.m. for $55. General admission is $40. In the West Wing, you’ll hear hip-hop, reggae and soca music and in the East Wing you’ll hear house and Top 40 hits. You can also mingle in the Capitol Over Look Lounge.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Penang DC (1837 M Street, NW) without breaking your bank with tickets starting at only $20. You also get an open bar from 9-10 p.m. VIP table and bottle service start at $300.

Station 9 (1438 U Street NW) looks like they have a party for everyone. Depending on how much you want to spend, you can either get a complimentary champagne toast for $30, VIP admission with open bar until midnight for $50 or premium VIP admission with open bar until midnight plus you won’t have to wait in line for $80. For advance tickets and table options visit www.Station9NYE.com

Ciroc presents a New Years Eve Masquerade Ball at Lux Lounge (649 New York Ave NW) featuring an open bar from 8-10 p.m. with a complimentary champagne toast at midnight and a buffet. Tickets are $30 for a limited time.

Busboys and Poets is hosting two New Years Eve parties for the price of one! From 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. both DC Busboys and Poets locations (14th & V and 5th & K) will offer an open bar, DJ, lavish hors d’oeuvres, dancing all night and a midnight champagne toast to usher in 2010. One $65 ticket allows for chauffeured travel, via our “party bus” circulating between the two locations every 30 minutes throughout the evening! A portion of the ticket proceeds will go to a variety of non-profit organizations promoting social justice and peace.

Party at Tabaq (1336 U Street NW) for the ‘MMX Dawn of the Decade’ New Year’s Eve party. For $75 get the VIP treatment: enjoy the rooftop terrace (that on a clear night gives a view of some Washington landmarks), an open bar until 1 a.m., passed hors d’ouerves and a complimentary champagne toast. For $40 enjoy general admission in the red room and the art room, drink specials all night long and a complimentary champagne toast. Get tickets now or to reserve a table contact Beny at 202.344.5759.

DJ I Am will be helping you bring in the New Year at Breadsoda (2233 Wisconsin Ave. NW), spinning funk, soul and hip-hop. Starting at 8 a.m. with NO COVER and no dress code, enjoy a champagne toast at midnight to ring in 2010.

Keep checking back as this list will be updated daily!

Stay fab :)

  • whats available for people under 21?

  • I’ll be at Lounge of Three on U Street for New Years!! Should be a blast!!!!

  • Taz @ H20? Wow!! That’s gonna be huge!! I’m there!!

  • Hogates sounds nice and the price is great

  • Mark let’s not let the cat out the bag about LOIII lol… I don’t want to share a good thing

  • LOL @ Cassandra. I totally understand. Sometimes, I’m really happy that place falls below the radar of these night life sites and blogs because it’s grown so much organically.

On top of that, the bougie fake-new money folks haven’t found it yet ;)

  • I visited a long time ago. Peep recap here: http://dcfab.thefabempire.com/2009/05/18/recap-lounge-of-three/ but it’s extremely small so perhaps you’re right. It works well when not many people know about it. I’d say it fits 50 comfortably. Upstairs about 15-20.

  • First NYE in DC. What do you guys think about Club Love? Yay or Nay and why?

  • luna

nobody goes to LOVE anymore. Its real hood now. the 23 and over prefer lounges and small spots. try one of the clubs on the list posted by dcfab above.

If you want something similar to LOVE, go to lux lounge which is about a mile up the road. Thats pretty much where the LOVE crowd moved to after LOVE went down the toilet.

anyway, at 32, I dont want to do clubs anymore. The last 2 years ive attended house partys and had more fun then any club Ive been to over the past years.

  • DC Fab! Nice review. It looks like you visited on a night that Dan The Man was attempting to promote there. He lasted all of one week – it’s not necessarily for his crowd in the first place though.

I along with other promoters have been working with that venue for months now and it has been wonderful. I have personally been there with more than 125-150 in the venue, DJ’s rockin’ and having a blast.

I prefer it not to be that crowded, but it can fit a lot for such a small spot – but, that’s what makes it a gem! The fact that it isn’t cookie-cutter and is so bare bones and simplified, you get the opportunity of gaining relationships with other patrons and staff. The bartenders here are REALLY GOOD too!

The menu has been reworked since your review too, with a brand new chef who is constantly adding new dishes. I tried the shrimp and grits recently and they were to die for!!

    I love Lounge of Three!!

  • Thanks for the tip jasonk!

  • Uh, JasonK, youre exactly right. Where is the next house party?

  • Ive been to Lounge of Three twice for private birthday parties
the spot is waaaay too small!
You cannot move at all upstairs
    and the food was gross
This is a nice chill spot to go and sit down at
but do not attempt to dance or eat good food here

  • Pshhhh lounge of three rocks! I dunno what you ate but that food is good! Try a quesadilla!

  • Wooooooooow Mark….how you just up and throw Dan under the street sweeper like that? There is soooooo much unnecessary hate among promoters in DC!!

Anyway!!! Jasonk hit it right on the money Love is a no go for NYE 2010!! The life of the party and the crowd did move to Lux with Taz & Skeeter. And Taz & Skeeter are the folks behind the party at Hogates. It’s Taz’s birthday with a casino night theme, so it’s easy to say this is going to be the hottest party in the DMW without a question.

lunabella take my advice and go to Hogates for NYE 2010. Taz has been doing the hottest NYE parties in the city for years!!

  • Never heard of Tabaq, is that a small venue, do you think it will be any good?

So H20 is now called Hogates? That place had no lighting, too crowded, too hot, with men grabbing all over you.

  • DC Socialite – I wasn’t throwing him under the bus at all, though. Please don’t think that. For the record, I frequent a few of his events. I was just stating that the ‘lounge’ scene isn’t necessarily his crowd, since he throws parties.

Hard to throw a party in a place that sits 125/150 max. That’s part of the charm though :)

  • I sooo love this site, you do such a good job dcfab!!!

But I have a question…..are the tix for Hogates $20 (as is on here) or $30 (price on tix site)????

  • Happy New Year to all!

-Tabaq is small but with 4 or 5 friends you shud have a good time. Try to get on the top floor.
-Love is a no go tonight but tomorrow Drake will be there. He wasn’t spectacular the last time he came for Howard Homecoming soooo….ehh
-For Hogates, ticket prices have raised so go with the price on the site. Also, Shay Shay thanks!!!

    Be safe tonight y’all!

    Joi-Marie

  • So where did everyone go? I drove by Lux at 10:30, it’s raining and they’re holding the line as usual, it went all the way down the block.

  • DCFab, thanks for the tips, I bought a ticket for the party at Union Station last week not knowing about the party (Hogates) in SW which I could have walked to!

The event at Union Station was absolutely HORRIBLE. My guests from out of town (and myself) will not ever go out in DC for NYE again and I really woke up angry this morning. If anyone’s interested in knowing why, I can explain because I really want to blast the incompetent, lying, bastard promoters. :)

  • lunabella – yes please tell me! I was so upset I missed being able to buy tickets to Union Station, I thought that would have been the best party.

According to LOVE’s website they are shut down by the police due to some incident last night. Anyone know what happened?

  • Someone was stabbed. Pray for the family. Security has confirmed incident. Details forthcoming.
