Recap: Founding Farmers
By DC Fab • November 12th, 2009
Nestled on the ground floor of the IMF Building, Founding Farmers (1924 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) is a great addition to this bustling area.
With the White House three blocks to the west and GW’s campus three blocks to the east, this restaurant is situated in a prime location for professionals and students alike. Their website (www.wearefoundingfarmers.com) accurately describes the atmosphere of the restaurant; wood accents throughout, a main dining room with bar area and a mezzanine level with additional seating.
Our waiter explained that all of their products were free-range, meaning that farmers allow the animals to roam freely to improve their happiness and liveliness, creating a better quality product.
The menu is extensive and has something for everyone. They also have eclectic cocktails and an extensive wine list available. Here are my fab! recommendations:
Drinks
Farmer Jon (the perfectly mixed drink)
La Feria (definitely for those who enjoy a strong drink)
Appetizers
Bacon Wrapped Dates (heaven in your mouth)
Devil-ish Eggs: The Combo (a seafood twist on the traditional deviled egg)
Entrees
Low Country Shrimp and Grits (mixed with bacon, sausage and an array of seasonings and other toppings)
Long Roasted Pork chop (absolutely huge, but very tender and delicious)
Desserts
Red Velvet Cake (topped with cream cheese icing and served with ice cream on the side)
Made-to-Order Fried Donuts (served with 3 types of dipping sauces)
The service, food, and atmosphere were excellent! This restaurant gets an A.
