A Promoter Get His Own Place…Recess Lounge Coming Soon!
By DC Fab • July 21st, 2009
Many of you know Fisayo Esconsay from his parties since graduating from University of Maryland in 2002. His current weekly line up includes a party at Current on Thursdays, Ladies Night at Tuscana West on Fridays and until recently a fashionable party at Mai Thai on Saturdays.
Working with staple and up and coming promoters alike, Fisayo has made a name for himself for being able to attract a post-professional and fashionable crowd to many of his venues.
Instead of promoting other restaurants turned lounges across the District, Fisayo along with college roommate Brandon Howard are ready to open Recess, a new lounge right across the street from the White House.
“Deciding to open Recess wasn’t a matter of opening a nightclub for the sake of owing a nightclub, Recess is first and foremost about Brandon and I’s vision for the perfect party venue and indeed the perfect party. Venue wise, with Recess we think we hit the nail on the head. Party-wise, we’ll let the party goers be the judge,” says Fisayo when asked the importance of attaining his own venue.
Still, Fisayo and Brandon aim to provide something different to D.C. nightlife, putting a strong emphasis on the quality of music in their lounge. Fisayo says, “Music-wise though, Brandon and I take our music seriously, so party goers can expect lots of great deejays from New York, Miami and Los Angeles to drop by Recess weekly.”
Recess will be an intimate lounge with muted colors and wood salvaged from centuries old walnut trees. This potential new hot spot plans to open September 2009 and according to their press release, Recess, “will be a sanctuary for high profile out-of-towners, D.C. tastemakers and celebrities.” Can’t wait

aww sounds nice!!
I’m really looking for some more old school type vibe/songs on the lounge scene
Does anyone know of any places that play this type of music
I really don’t have a desire to dance to Lil Wayne and Drake..lol

Since i have never ventured over to Current, Tuscana West, or Mai Thai, I am not sure what type of music he’s referring to. Just because you bring in DJs from other cities doesn’t move me 1 bit (unless u talking Biz or Kid Capri). Hell, What’s wrong with having a local like W. Ellington Felton djing? That hiphop/neosoul is the ONLY thing I prefer when I hit a lounge. How can a single brutha get his mack on with “She got donk” screaming in a sista’s ear LOL.

Consensus has been reached. Call me old but I absolutely abhor the music being played in these pretentious spots around town. I can hear that crap on 93.9 or 95.5 all day! When I go out I want to hear rare or old school cuts.
DJ Biz, DJ Jahsonic, etc. send help!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Fisayo and I are working hard to bring DC a fresh perspective when it comes to music. So the last thing you should expect to hear is the standard radio hits. From the comments I’ve seen, it seems like many of you like myself are fans of old school classics. Well please take note, upon opening, every Sunday night will be dedicated to classic R&B, Soul and Hip Hop. In fact, its funny that V mentioned W.Ellington Felton earlier, because we’ve just locked him in as our resident DJ every Sunday. So get ready folks. I promise you won’t be disappointed. We look forward to you visiting.

Not really a party goer on sundays, but glad to hear it and will be checking out the spot. One thing that crossed my mind early today while sitting at the doctor’s office. I was listening to Pandora on my Iphone while waiting and it hit me. Why not ust buy a nice surround system (i am sure most they do) and plug in an Ipod or Mac or whatever and play music via Pandora? Seems like that would save money if it’s just a lounge. Then again, a great DJ behind the booty is always nice.
Maybe some spots do that already. I have to say, that Pandora is a nice app!

Brandon thanks for reading – I for one am glad to learn that you guys are expanding the status quo. Looking forward to checking out the spot!
V – in the meantime check out 18th St. Lounge on Sunday nights or Marvin on Mondays. They’ll certainly give you what you want.
