Recap: Raheem DeVaughn Takes Over K Street Lounge
By DC Fab • June 16th, 2009
After promoters Dominique Moxey and Mark Spain kept twittering me about what they feel is the hottest new Friday party around, I decided to drop by K Street Lounge (1301 K Street NW) last week. Months ago you couldn’t even find a decent party on Friday nights in the District besides Love nightclub and my crowd doesn’t go there anymore. Then Indulj popped up on U Street but due to overcrowding, you can only drop by once in a while, so I was a little excited to see if this could be my Friday night alternative.
I arrived ‘early’, a little before 11 p.m., unsure of what the crowd would be like. Sure enough, the line was down the block. Happily surprised, I met my girls and went inside just in time to catch the end of open bar. We definitely took too much advantage of that, mixing and mingling while sipping on blue motorcycles (yea, I had to take a break from my beloved apple martini’s).
Inside the lounge definitely wasn’t as crowded as the outside line made it appear. I suppose promoters crept people inside all night long.
DJ Benhameen wasn’t doing it for me early in the night, playing nothing but old hits.
While the crowd was lacking (although we did meet some cute interns here for the summer, which was cool) and the music was lacking we decided to wait it out as long as we could, a little after midnight. And perhaps we should have stayed longer to see Raheem DeVaughn and his 368 Music Group take over but we just couldn’t wait any longer. Shout out to his hardworking promotional team (Brooke!) who we spotted outside when leaving. At least someone had a good time…

Why doesn’t anyone have free happy hours during actual happy hour hours anymore?! K Street Lounge and Cloud were like a dressed up Stamp party….Oh and Blue motorcycles get me in trouble.
